The MT Polestar is a 25year old tanker owned by Megaports. As part of a scheduled dry-dock program, the owner opted to have a section of the bow area of the vessel Metalized in order to help prevent further corrosion.

The Metalizing was carried out by MTMM in a drydock of the Pan United shipyard in Singapore. 45 sq m of the vessel was Metalized in approximately 2 hours of operations. Zinc was used both for anti-corrosion and anti fouling coating on the underwater section of the vessel. On the above water bow section, zinc coating was used for corrosion resistance, especially around the anchor pocket area where abrasion causes early coating damage to the typical paint coating.

The work was completed in Dec 2006 and and to date, no significant corrosion has been reported in the area coated.
